Kalap utca, 1991
A factory first, then a disco
In 1991 this former factory building was turned into District III’s busiest disco, High Life, in just a few months. On summer weekends the queue ran the length of Kalap utca and sometimes backed up traffic.
A giant mirror stood by the stairs so everyone could check their sunglasses one more time before going in. One New Year’s Eve the national anthem even got a techno remix here: the first and last time, since it was banned on the spot.
The place closed at the turn of the millennium and the building was rebuilt from scratch. It has been running as DISTR3CT Event Cube since 2023, across two floors. We are bringing PCs into a room that used to be full of speakers.

Free parking
Parking is always free on the building’s side of the street. On the opposite side it’s also free on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), but metered on weekdays.
On weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), the main routes serving the nearest stops run roughly as follows: bus 9 and trams 17/19/41 come about every 10-15 minutes from early morning (roughly 4:30-5:00 AM) until the night-service gap (roughly 11:00-11:30 PM), while the H5 suburban railway runs about every 15-20 minutes. During the overnight gap, night buses 901, 909, 917, 918 and 960 take over, roughly every 30-60 minutes. Always check the BudapestGO app or BKK’s timetable for exact departure times.
